Download the IB 6 manual set and read the Language Reference (LangRef.pdf) and the Data Definition Guide (LangRef.pdf). Contrary to its name, the LangRef is not merely a dictionary of terms, it has basic examples of basic SQL.

Buy these two books:

SQL for Dummies (2nd edition) by Allen G. Taylor - it's a real beginner book and uses InterBase for its examples.

SQL Queries for Mere Mortals by Michael J. Hernandez, John Viescas
