I started with RedHat 6.2 and encountered no pitfalls with installing either InterBase or Firebird server from rpm packages.

My RH 6.2 graphical environment is currently in a horrible mess after an attempted install of Kylix 2 but that has nothing to do with Firebird/InterBase: it continues to behave like a good server. I have RH 7.2 ready to install and, from others' reports, I anticipate that it will work just fine AND solve the nits in the Kylix installation too...

I haven't even bothered to evaluate other Linux flavours.
