I'd suggest you look at the message component (msg) in the sources
(www.sourceforge.net/projects/firebird, click on CVS and then brows
sources).

The messages are stored in a database and a program creates the message
file and several header files from the information in the database. I
find that maintaining data in a database is easier than trying to keep
several files in sync.
