This makes the problem much smaller, but does not eliminate it.

It would seem that separate programs each using their own connection does work,
but the second that there is a timer loop in a program, hitting a backgroud
refresh, then there seems to be a problem.

I am currently trying to get a project that was stable with IB5.6 stable again
with IB6, but it looks as if I have to give up on the improvements and stay with
the 3 year old version.

Changing gds versions give different results, and so I am convinced the problem
is there, but like Rob, I don't know what to do about it.
