Thanks for the information, I found it very interesting myself.

I just want to point out a recent change to the Firebird sources, which
does have implications here. The latest Firebird sources now
automatically defaults to IP port 3050 if no entry is found in the
services. file (for all platforms).

This will simplify the install and reduce the support issues due to the
'popular' "Undefined service gds_db/tcp" errors.
