The Firebird linux .tar.gz file should do a fairly good job of installation.
which are :

FirebirdCS-0.9-4p1.tar.gz
FirebirdSS-0.9-4p1.tar.gz

They really are fairly generic unix install scripts, so most linux'es
should be ok.

(There is also .deb package underway somewhere as well as I understand)
