Actually, one way of looking at the situation is that Borland
has come around to the position that everyone hoped for in
October of 1999. InterBase is funded and "backed" by Borland.
Of course, the group is somewhat smaller and several good people
are gone, but the product has a future. I do feel a bit like
the soldier in the cartoon, raising his head to look across a
bloody smoking battlefield, realizing he's the last one standing,
and saying "I won... I think."

Free thanks to the good work of people like Mark O'Donohue,
Frank Schlottmann-Goedde, Mike Nordell, Tom Coleman, Reed Mideke,
Patrick Griffin, Sean Leyne ...

I had a release candidate, but it doesn't work with dbExplorer and
BDE. Of course, it's designed for V6 and BDE is not. Not being
a Borland person, I don't have either of those tools so I rely on
others for testing. Since the error returned is "object not found"
and the SQL log from the ODBC manager doesn't show any problems
it's a bit hard to debug. The driver as I got it was very weak on
metadata calls - I'm fixing them as I find them, between bouts of
trying to fix databases and get various versions of InterBase running
on various platforms (HP/IX, IB 3.3 anyone?) and answering the odd
mail message.
