Dear Fred,
I don't have anything against Borland but you forgot to add the fact that
Firebird is opensource while Borland's Interbase is not. In addition,
Firebird's version 1.0 will have additional features Interbase 6.5 does not
have. Just for example, how much time and paper did developpers waste
looking for the 'UNKNOWN COLUMN' error when creating or modifying a stored
procedure. In addition, I have the impression that the Firebird guys and
more conservative with respect to their numbering schemes. What they call
Beta could be called Release by Borland. The best way of comparing both is
by the number of solved and pending bugs.
I am sure that if the Firebird developers had the money and resourses
available to Borland, they would have reached version 2.
Regards
Salim

Well, let me play devils advocate for a moment.
Let's see,
- number of releases from Borland post IB5.6 -> 2 (IB6.0, IB6.5)
- number of releases from Firebird -> 0
We (the compnay that I work for) can not and will not ship beta, RC, etc.,
code, only release code. We've been asking here (Mers until it went down),
when is FB 1.0 going to be released. All we ever hear is "real soon". The
link someone posted to IBPhoenix regarding RC2 says the same thing, that is
RC2 will be available "soon".... We (the company that I work for), may have
to go to Borland for IB, since "real soon" has been a "real long time" ;)
