Olivier,
I suspect that you have run into the new WinME/XP 'System File
Protection' (SFP) feature. Basically, the OS attempts to make a backup
copy of the data file, each time the file is openned anew. Send your
thanks Bill G and his MS crew for this new 'feature'.
If you have a look in the list/NG archives I'm sure that you will find a
posting from me explaining the ugly details and the possible
workarounds. Fortunately, XP does provide the ability to completely
disable the feature, whereas WinME does not.
