IB 6.0.1 can't read a 5.x database. Either use the new Firebird
distribution; or use 5.x gbak to backup your db in transportable
format; then use 6.x gbak to restore it as a Dialect 1 database. The
second plan is recommended - I should have said - it's recommended, even
though the original release of IB 6 was supposed to be able to read 5.x
databases.
The full answer is that the recent InterBase 6.0.1 security release removed
that ability; but it remains in the new Firebird release. However, there
may be defects, so the gbak and restore plan is recommended, even if you
are using the Firebird distribution.
Sorry - didn't mean to imply that IB 6.0.1 was recommended in preference to
Firebird - the opposite is true, since Firebird has fixed many more bugs.
