Connecting as localhost ... and opening employee.fdb ... at least that proves
that the network side IS OK.

I suspect then that the php module is not finding the client.
PHP 5.3.3 is rather out of date, but I'm not sure what later packages are
available for CentOS. I'm running SUSE and Fedora which both load a much more
recent set of packages, and do load the client .so as part of the install.
