Actually I don't see PDO as a good way to connect to firebird.
Search in this list, this was discussed recently.
AFAIR PHP ptoject can abandon that interface in the near future.

The only maintained interface for FB in php is ibase_* (Interbase/Firebird) functions set, i.e. php_interbase.dll
