It's good to see so many people are using Firebird with PHP. Codeigniter is not
something I use myself though. By the way though, while it looks like you missed
handling the bolb_id initially, there is also a bug in versions of PHP5.2.6 and
before that gives the wrong ID ... just in case someone reports that the read is
still not working.
