IMHO, if you wanted a free distro with good support of Firebird, use
Mandriva, if you have not good knowledge of Linux, really it is the best
choice. And it is free as Ubuntu is free.
Pick up Mandriva One or Mandriva free, set up repositories with their
wizzard and you'll get all you need.
