but I'm not installing onto a new debian server, I'm installing
on an existing debian server with a complete "Plesk7.5 Reload"
environment running (http://www.swsoft.com/plesk).

obviously my server and yours are different somehow. :-)

the fact remains that the firebird2 debian package did not allow
TCP/IP connections whatever I tried and installing firebird1.5
from source worked straight out of the box.
