not really a solution but. A friend (Ard B.) of mine (re)wrote the latest
version of the ibase/fbird extension in php... his advice has always proved
very valuable to me, when it comes to a choice between SuperServer/Classic was
his recommendation, last I spoke to him about fbird, to 'just use Classic'
(he may recommend differently now - it was a while ago).

anyway, my point is it may just be a SuperServer specific problem... maybe
using Classic fixes your issues?
