I have it working on Mandrake 10, RH 9 and Fedora Core 2.
Under all three the 1.51 rpm install works just fine. Make
sure you read installation notes in this document:

As for the PHP thing, I posted steps specific to Mandrake
on this list a couple of months ago based on another
poster's suggestions.
