Yes and No.
I've been running with it both set and not set and getting
the same results. ADOdb does take care of a lot of the
'conversions' required before posting and after reading the
data, but you can bypass ADOdb at which point you may need
to set them.

Not a very good answer, but ADOdb does seem to handle the
problem 'internally' ( unless someone can show differently :) )
