I haven't actually tried that, but I believe all you need is a Firebird
*client*. The PHP --with-interbase=[dir] parameter points to where the
client, or GDS32.DLL, file is. When you actually connect to a database from
the PHP code, you'll specify the database to connect to--and what server
it's on.

Thanks for the link.
I want to install FB on a different host from Apache/php.
All the installation instructions I've seen assume they will all be
installed on a single host.
