You've hit the nail on the head right there! Well done!
You might come to a point (in your application) where you need two
transactions open, you've used a selectable procedure to do both an insert,
and a return of a dataset, and until you commit, the new record is invisible
to all other transactions.
If you then use your new value in another transaction context, the sky will
fall on your head...
Apparently there's a better way to get new inserted ID's from am insert via
PHP...
