I have made some progress, thanks to your help!

As you suggested, I tried

  AuthServer = Srp256, Srp

...and now it works - to a remote server at least.

I presume AuthServer = Srp would also work.

I am still having trouble connecting to a database on the same machine but I'm sure I will get it going.
