I used IB6, "Because It's There" [as George Mallory said of Mount
Everest]; i.e., IB6 was already on my computer. And because the
JayBird pages lead me to believe that it would work. And finally
because I have a bunch of software that works with IB6 that may or may
not work with FB, and as I understand it, you can't install FB without
uninstalling IB.

I don't (yet) need pooling, so I tried JayBird 1.5 JDK 1.4. It does
work (at least for the little snippet I posted before), while JayBird
2.0.0 beta 2 JDK 1.5 does not, so the incompatibility with IB6.0 seems
to have crept into JayBird 2. I'll remove IB and install FB and then
try JayBird 2 on a different computer. I'll report back when I've
done that.
