Different Firebird versions? The error happens inside the procedure and
Firebird 1.0.x and Firebird 1.5.x may behave differently.

Another question is why don't you see the error messages... Can you verify
whether your firebirdsql.jar (or firebirdsql-full.jar) contains
isc_error_messages.properties file?
