I appreciate your help. I did try copying the dll but that doesn't appear to be sufficient. Now it wants another, but even though I copy that over, I still get the error. I suspect that I have some version issues in my dll's.

P.S. I was able to get this to work on a different win98 machine so at least I have seen it work on win98.

Hi,

It may be because msvcp60.dll is not present. I've found that this dll is
not present in a clean install of win2k and so I guess its the same for
win98. If fbserver 1.5 was installed using the exe installer it would place
this dll in to the system directory - otherwise you will need to make this
dll available to the application by hand.

Hope this helps.

Ryan

I downloaded firebirdembededforjava_JDK14_RC1_01.zip and am using the
fbembed.dll , firebirdsql_embeded.jar and java_gds.dll that are included in
the zip. The readme.txt in the zip suggests that some files need to be
extracted to the jre\bin. I tried that, but it didn't seem to make any
difference.

Are you refering too the type 2 driver or embedded database support ?

?

If this is the case it should be straight forward to get it to work with
win98, let us know and I'll look into it. A bit more infomation about what
files you have installed would be helpfull.

Thanks
Ryan

I saw that item but I this box wasn't upgraded from win95 so I'm not sure
how winsock 2 is an issue. The only downloads I see are for win95 machines
and say that they are not meant for windows 98 users.

Hi Brian,

This is covered in item 34 of the JayBird FAQ that comes with the driver.
This may solve your problem.

Item is below.

Rick

34- How do I use JayBird with Windows 95/98?

return to top

You must upgrade to Winsock 2.0 to use JayBird with Windows 95. See the
Microsoft web site for details. Windows 98 uses Winsock 2.0 by default, but
in a very few cases when Windows is upgraded from 95 to 98, Winsock 2.0 is
not installed. See http://www.sockets.com/winsock2.htm for more info.

same way I have it on my XP machine where it works. However the 98 machine
complains about the GDS32.dll. Even though I don't think this is really the
dll that's the problem, I tried copying this file over and it still came up
with the same message. I suspect that my problem is that the embedded dll
has dependencies on some other dll's that don't exist on my 98 machine. Does
anyone know what these dependencies are? Or does this not work on 98?
