I will run your test tomorrow. However, I think something is wrong
with your test environment. At work I have transfer rate approx. 2,7
MB/sec between Windows client and Linux server (PIII 750MHz) over the
100MBit network (for comparison, FTP with the same machine gives 1,7
MB/sec). This would mean approx 2ms per 50k blob. So, performance
should be comparable.

Again, I will check your code tomorrow.
