There are a set of things you can add to the connect "url", we regularly use something like:

jdbc:firebirdsql:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/3050:e:/firebird/xxx.gdb?user=uuuuuu&password=pppppp

These are just 2 of a fair number of parameters. Unfortunately the hour and age preclude my whipping out the name of the parameter control block from whence these cometh - you basically strip out the prefix in the control block and are left with "user", "password" in the above example. I do not know if modifying autocommit is one of those parameters. The info is somewhere in the pdf docs for interbase/firebird.

It seems to go against the specification. Newly created connection is
required to be in auto-commit mode. Pooling adds connection
reusability, but does not change the contracts... I will not add this
feature unless I get either: a) major market players do this and this
is de-facto standard; or b) this is not against specification.
