FYI, this is how SAP (now MaxDB) does it - see

required to be in auto-commit mode. Pooling adds connection
reusability, but does not change the contracts... I will not add this
feature unless I get either: a) major market players do this and this
is de-facto standard; or b) this is not against specification.
