I have exactly the same problem.
 
I used an aprox. 1-2 month old cvs snapshot of the driver without problems.
 
Right now, I updated the driver and get the "SQLDA missing or incorrect version, or incorrect number/type of variables" exception when i try to get a connection.
 
I am connecting to a local Firebird RC2 on Windows.

Could it be, that this is caused by the old version of Firebird (0.9.xxx)?
(It was running with RC1 of the FirebirdSQL driver).
