Uhh...Word --> DocBook. :-(

Have you considered to use something like AsciiDoc(tor)/reStructuredText
markup from which are easy for authoring/awriting and from them it's
possible to convert to DocBook either directly (for AsciiDoc) or via
Pandoc for reST.

Of course, if using e.g. (free) LibreOffice it would be possible to
convert (via Pandoc) to e.g. HTML and then to reST/AsciiDoc as well.

Nice to hear about paper edition...although it would probably mean
buying 4 books...hmm, is there some space on my shelf...

If I got it right it seems that IBObjects are commercial software and
avaiable for Windows/Delphi-only while I'm interested for open-source
stuff and use (Debian) Linux?
