Since I provide ongoing maintenance and swap out machines on a 3 or 4 year
cycle, then yes it is a lot cheaper for me .... customer pays the same each
year for the ongoing support which ever way we go, but they have to cover the
extra costs of windows licences on top of my basic charge. So we either
recycle existing windows licences or THEY pay for new ones. I'm replacing W2k
servers with Linux ones as the machines need replacing and adding new machines
as the load increases due to more users coming on line to the system. We are
moving functions currently provided via very expensive oracle or db2 systems
over to Apache/PHP/Firebird and actually reducing the customers ongoing costs
... ;)
