For those who have no idea as to what Nigel is talking about, here in
Australia, in the island state of Tasmania, in a small town of
Beaconsfield, there was a mine. This gold mine suffered a small
earthquake on April the 25th which caused a cave in. One miner was
killed but somehow two miners survived, but it wasn't until 5 days later
that they where actually known to be alive. What followed was an
extraordinary event where miners, engineers, geologists etc battled
through unstable rock that was at least 5 times harder than concrete to
get them out. They finally got out at 6am this morning.
Launceston, where Nigel is, is the closest main town to the mine
and probably explains why www.theage.com.au, a newspaper in Melbourne,
in a different state, announces the miners "liberation" but
www.examiner.com.au, the Launceston paper, at 8.59am still says they are
a metre away from freedom. Nigels probably sent his email from his
Blackberry whilst drapped over a bar somewhere ;)
Regards,
Andrew Lowe - a fellow happy Australian.
