Great news that 2.0 is released, and also good to see that the people
doing the Firebird PR stuff are getting the new release noticed.
But I was saddened to see how ignorant the responses on Slashdot are.
I've seen other products I used get discussed on Slashdot, but I
never saw quite so much noise and so little information. Almost all
the useful information re: Firebird in that discussion is already
being drowned by comments aboout Mozilla. That Mozilla debacle did
untold damage to the visibility of Firebird.
That's not to say that the more discerning readers won't go directly
to the linked Firebird information rather than reading the discussion.
If they are interested in databases and they see that the discussion
is so dumb, then they will hopefully have the sense to check out the
origin of the discussion.
Congrats to all involved in Firebird 2.0. Since I first found out
about Firebird 1.0 four years ago, I've never been tempted to use a
different db.
