Paul - you are aware that the 'official' PHP driver supports both
ibase_xxx and fbird_xxx and that the underlying structure is already
configured so that Ard can split to provide two drivers as soon as the
need actually arises.

I was not aware from your original posts that you were NOT using the PHP
driver - perhaps some real documentation is urgently required!
