It seems to me that this conference is an "add-on" to a PHP conference
held at the same time in the same hotel.
It confirms for me that having a PHP-stack for Firebird is as important
as having ODBC, JDBC and .Net drivers and as important as smooth
integration with Delphi.
I'd say there are four leading technologies for building db-based
solutions these days:
1 VB/Delphi based
2 Java based
3 .Net based
4 PHP/Web based ("LAMP", but that acronym misses the point)
All four seem to be growing. (1) may be getting dated, but is still
getting a lot of use; (2) is seeing lots of buzz around app servers
like JBoss; (3) is being pushed heavily by MS; and (4) is being pushed
by big DB vendors, probably using a skunkworks hit to combat threats
from (2) and (3).
I intend to do a session on integrating Web/PHP/FB during the FB
Conference, assuming the organisers agree.
