Hi Philippe,
I am not sure I understood every sentence, but here it goes:
- Compiere is now (since March) at 2.5.2, which can use either SQLJ
or PL/SQL stored procedures. Before 2.5.2 it had to be PL/SQL.
- Compiere is moving towards "DB independence", which means that it
uses more and more standard SQL and that SP's are minimized: there
are only 25 or so left. However, this is a long process because some
Oracle'isms are deeply embedded in the code (assuming NULL equals
empty string for instance).
- as far as I know Compiere does not run on SapDB, because it does
not do PL/SQL or SQLJ procedures.
- Sybase paid for the SQLJ stuff, but it still does not run Compiere
properly
- There is a closed source port, "CODAF", which uses a modified
Compiere, but at least seems to work.
- There is a postgres port of Compiere, but it heavily modified
Compiere and it does not seem to work on top.
In summary, Compiere is becoming an ever easier target to support,
but apart from Oracle nothing works completely. Compiere 2.5.1 works
well with Fyracle, but even Fyracle currently has some limitations:
- no temp tables, which are used in the "language pack" import code
(will be added in 0.8.8)
- no SQLJ, which are the "official" stored procedures for 2.5.2
onwards. (will be added in 0.8.9)
So, once we have reached 0.8.9, Fyracle should run even Compiere
2.5.2 "out of the box". However, it remains true that Jorg Janke
himself only wants to support Oracle. Jotel offers support for
Fyracle based installations.
As to "more demand for Postgres", I think the fact that Firebird/
Interbase installations outnumber Postgres installations about 30 to
1 is a sufficient reply.
