Subject Re: [Firebird-general] MySQL 5 to open once-closed doors
Author brenmcguire@tariffenet.it
It's funny when some so-called open source enthusiast says things like
"finally MySQL will have this and that thing", I know a number of them.
When I say them "but Firebird had it a lot of time ago". But when they
hear "Firebird" there are two main reactions:
a) they confuse Firebird SQL with Mozilla Firebird (the memory is still
there, maybe their brain need a format /u)
b) they make stupid sexual jokes about the "bird in fire". Oh well I don't
know if in anglosaxon countries "bird" means what means in Italy... Anyway
just imagine that...
After one of this step, they usually say "but it is not possible, MySQL is
the best open DBMS in the world". No matter if I say them "notice that
MySQL in NOT open as they say, and if it lacks such important feature, how
it is possible to be the best one?".
They go on saying "but I can download it for free and I love it". Ok, then
I suggest two opportunities:
a) use an old version of MySQL and forget about stored procedures and
other stuff;
b) use a new version of MySQL and forget about stability.
Oh well, there is a "c", use Firebird instead, or maybe PostgreSQL (please
don't attack me, I love Firebird) and forget about MySQL. At this point
usually they forget about me :-P
The other funny thing is when M$SQL lovers notice that Firebird "lacks" a
table editor. They still don't know the difference between a DBMS and a
design tool...
Long live the Firebird (please no stupid jokes :-P )
