Like with MSSQL, Oracle will offer with a free edition an upgrade path to
their higher editions. I know quite some people who are using MSDE for
instance, just because there is an "upgrade path" to their Standard or
Enterprise Edition. People (decision maker) love such a backdoor just in
case MSDE gets to small for their environment, and if they won't trust open
source databases like Firebird.
