I don't see the article really saying that, it's just that Oracle in
their infinite wiz-dumb have decided to break their SQL, by promoting
(or demoting, depending on how to see it) an empty string to a NULL.

Suppose your application uses an empty string for one thing, and a NULL
for another, such as a NULL being a new value and and empty string being
a removed value, that's not going to work now. Gee thanks guys, makes
me feel all warm and fuzzy every time my computer says starting Firebird
rather then saying starting Oracle :-)
