My choice of words was rather missing the point.

What I was really thinking, is, that I really very much
like the Wikipedia project and want them to have less
techical problems.

And, of course, only saying "with Firebird you won't have
DBMS caused downtimes" won't help anything, even if true.

So, and only assuming that it is a problem solely of MySQL,
the Wikipedia project would need a volunteer to port to
a DBMS better fitting the ever growing load. Whatever the best
DBMS would be.
