I have given you an example at the beginning of this
now-rather-religious thread: often you need to store a document as a
whole, and secure it (with a digital signature, for example). It is
very unconvenient to sign it if it's scattered into many relational
pieces. So you need to store it as an atom, sign it as such, and still
be able to query its parts. That's what document-centric or
document-centered storage is about. Thomas gave some good pointers
about the current of the art.
