Subject Re: [Firebird-general] Arguments for Firebird
Author Ann W. Harrison
The choice between Firebird and PostgreSQL depends on the
application and the platform. If you need user defined
data types of the exotic sort, PostgreSQL is the obvious
choice. If you need a system that you can package and
distribute to naive customers, Firebird is the obvious
choice. PostgreSQL is just about to release its first
native Windows version. Firebird has run on Windows
for a decade.

Performance benchmarks are unreliable unless constructed
to reflect your application and its intended use. A
determined benchmarker can demonstrate the superiority
of a Model T Ford over a Ferrari - "When the flag goes
down, gentlemen, start your cars with the hand crank." -
so I wouldn't put a lot of weight on someone else's
benchmark reports.
