Subject Re: [Firebird-general] Good for the OS, But Not for the Database
Author Adam Gardner
I totally agree with him on MySQL. Naturally you can't expect him to mention Firebird or PostgreSQL and put ideas in the head of potential customers for Oracle. Oracle still has some features missing in Firebird, but for most purposes, Oracle would be overkill, and Firebird and Oracle are different markets.

As Firebird proves itself more, and starts being used in larger projects it will gain credibility in the larger systems arena, but it will not happen overnight. It will be a bit more like linux, taking over certain tasks first, then expanding into oracle "safe houses" when big business has confidence in it the way they trust Oracle.

I forgot "Open Source " in the email subject sorry :(

and already there is a reply to article and firebird is mentioned

"People need to stop harping on about MySQL... go take a look at
Firebird. Unlike MySQL it has been transactional for 20 years or so and
has great support for the SQL standards, and unlike MySQL it is not just
'open source' software but truly free software (you are welcome to go
and re-sell it if you want). Firebird is so easily managed and is
embeddable inside an executable if that's what you need. In the
not-too-distant future, it will be fully 64bit.
