Morning Hannes,

I believe that under XP, the extension gdb as used for interbase/firebird
databases has been hijacked by the system and it always makes copies of
these files when they change.

Try renaming your database files to *.fdb and see if the problm goes away.

Cheers,
Norman.

Subject: [Firebird-general] Firebird and Laptops

Hi all,

i am new to this list , and i am using firebird fro about a year now ,
on a windows server , and on the road on a laptop,

on the laptop i have a major inconvenience
nearly every time i start the programm , firebird takes some 5 to 10
minutes engraving (or whatever) my harddisk

initially i thought this is the sweep but then on the road i do not
have 20000 transactions from one day to the other

the database is backuped on the server , the backupfile is copied to
the laptop , and then restored,

i am using win xp pro ,
firebird is the sourceforge binaries for win32
runing as a service
and i observed this on all three versions 1.00 1,02 and 1.03

is this a normal behaviour , or am i missing some settings ?

thanks for the help in advance
