Personally I have had no problem with recent versions of
SUSE. 8.1 and 8.2 both installed - from the box - and a lot
faster than W2k takes to set up. No problems even with the
wireless links which had been a problem in the past - on
both SUSE and W2k :)
It's just a pity that nobody at Novell thought to hang on to
there Unix stuff, but there again I don't think we have seen
the ACTUAL contract involved in that sale ;)
