Well, until a short while ago it was my opinion that any decision to
move discussion to a different list should be discussed, at least a
little bit. I learnt that no.

I also got "shut down" by Helen, who found a very polite way to tell
me to stop discussing the website issue in this list. And to go
discuss it in a new "webmaster" list, which basically means to
discuss it with Pavel only.

In my opinion this isn't a webmaster issue, it's a Firebird issue.
But I can understand it's too much for this IBDI list. There will be
more topics with many postings, all about Firebird internals how I
call this. I seriously believe this is a good solution. It frees up
the IBDI list and gives the opportunity for Firebird internal
discussion to those who want to do it.

This new Firebird list will be unmoderated, so everybody can express
his opinions, I will moderate it like Jason intends to do here in the
IBDI list. That's another reason to have this list.

Then, there's the advantage of the list name, which corresponds to
the project and community name. What else would be an apropriate use
for it, other than general discussion? It's obviously the best
purpose this list can serve.

Finally, in these several weeks of participating in sometimes
emotional discussion here on IBDI I have understood that opinions
regarding the objective of a really free, united and coherent
Firebird community, vary slightly. But the majority understands that
a community needs an own identity to be free. The list with name
Firebird is certainly a contribution to this and so I think most will
agree that the list shall exist and if it's only to protect some
other IBDI list members from boring themselves to death.

Finally, the list is public and all can use it and I'm certainly not
going to actively moderate it in any way. So it doesn't even change
anything to the current setup, except that it gives the option to
those bored by Firebird internal discussion to stay out of this list,
or to subscribe and read it on the web, whereas receiving email from
the IBDI list. So it's an improvement, how ever you turn it.

That's why I think it's good the new list is there.
Markus.

What title? Ok, I'm just one member of the community, and a recent
one. But I'm active
