As I see it, there are next issues:
1) Development infrastructure.
Could you provide the CVS, mailing lists, web space etc. ? If not,
SourceForge is good solution.
2) Development community
There is not any (it's a closed source product). If those interested
to tinker with it don't raise their hands in the course of
opensourceing, then they'll for sure appear after source would be
available.
3) The project lead.
Do you want to be involved in Marathon development and/or lead ?
If not, you'll need to find a good maintainer for it.
4) License
I'd suggest dual MPL&GPL (GPL with Kylix OE in mind) or BSD.
As a Firebird project member, I can say that we would be proud to
host Marathon in our development infrastructure as part of Firebird
project.
