For what it's worth - I was building using an "instructional" version
of vc, and things
worked fine. (The instructional version is super cheap). However, I
finally
was annoyed by the message box it emits during startup ("You cannot
distribute this
application by terms of the license, etc, so on and so forth") - and
splurged
for the hundred bucks to buy a full version.
