I certainly don't know everything that was going on internally, but from
what I remember it seems that the goal was to transfer Inprise's ownership
of Interbase to ISC and for Inprise to recoop their investment through
partial ownership of ISC (with the eventual goal to IPO ISC). If no other
options for a business plan were seriously considered (quite likely if
everyone was focused on the details of the above plan) now is a good time
to start. If Ann or Paul comes back and says that other plans were
discussed after it was evident that the original plan wouldn't work, but
nothing was accomplished, then that's a different story. I haven't heard
that yet, though.
