That is EXACTLY what you can expect with future releases of Windows.
Database functionality is being built into the operating system with the
following purposes:

- to improve quality and quantity of OS services to manage all things on the
box
- to reduce the "openess" of object management APIs by introducing poorly
documented OS specific extensions
- to increase the proprietary content of the OS, wrt object management, and
increase the competitive barrier to competitive application developers
- to enhance the the competitive differentiation of products produced by the
owner of the OS
- to increase the "binding" to the OS of the products produced by the owner
of the OS: these products become an "extension" to the OS ala Internet
Explorer
- to reduce attractiveness of other Database products (Oracle, look out)
