Edward, I agree 100% with you.
By default, OneList converts each message to HTML to be able to include the
infamous applet.
I was advised by Chad Hower to go the my personal settings in OneList ("my
profile") and change the format from HTML to TEXT. In case you're an old
onelist user like me, perhaps you'll need to change your pw, then logoff and
login again in order to see this setting in your profile. It seems that
setting did not exist at the time I created my account in the past (more
than a year ago).
This trick will kill the applet that tries to connect to Internet in each
message. The link will be delivered as a simple hyperlink but not as a
banner and you'll have a plain text file.
However, and let me remark this, if anybody sends an HTML letter to the
list, regardless of my settings, that letter is not converted to plain text;
instead, OneList takes advantage of that fact and inserts the applet.
So, to have plain text with a hyperlink instead of a banner that keep
making connections, there must be two requisites:
- You set PLAIN TEXT in your profile at OneList.
- Each person who contributes to the list must send in plain text.
Don't know if the list owner can make a global change so only plain text is
used. In Borland newsgroups, for example, guidelines say you must post in
plain text, but there are people that don't obey guidelines or simply can't
make their newsreader to send in other format than HTML.
AFAIK, no recommendation was done for this group, but for the sake of our
own benefit, to all members: please, try to post in plain text.
